An Open-Air Museum
Gibellina Nuova is an internationally acclaimed urban and artistic landmark. Envisioned by enlightened Mayor Ludovico Corrao, it brought together the greatest 20th-century artists and architects (Consagra, Schifano, Pomodoro, Quaroni, Purini, Mendini) to transform post-earthquake devastation into an enduring beacon of beauty and cultural renaissance.
Alberto Burri's Grande Cretto
On the ruins of Old Gibellina lies Burri's Grande Cretto, one of the world's most extensive Land Art masterpieces: a white concrete shroud tracing the former town streets and building blocks, solemnizing history in an artistic memorial of immense emotional power.
